At the docks, forklifts are required for handling operations, especially in containers. So, how to choose a forklift for container operations?
Forklifts for working in containers are also called special forklifts for working in containers. It is a special forklift with a maximum wheel pressure lower than the allowable wheel pressure value of the standard container floor, which can safely enter the container.
Profile height
The overall dimensions of the forklift working in the container should meet the needs of the small space in the container. According to the ISO international standard and my country's GB1834 "Minimum Internal Dimensions of Universal Containers", the minimum internal height of various box types is the external nominal height of the container minus 241mm; the minimum width of the box door is 2286mm, and the minimum height of the box door There are two sizes according to the box type, and the following table summarizes the corresponding situation.
The maximum outline height of the forklift operating in the box should be the height of the container door minus the thickness of the transition plate 15mm and the safety clearance of the forklift operation 80mm-90mm. For a container with a height of 8ft (2438mm), the maximum outline height of the forklift operating in the box should be less than 2030mm; for a container with a height of 8ft6in (2591mm), the maximum height of the forklift operating in the box should be less than 2180mm. In addition, attention should also be paid to the height of the driver's seat so that the driver's head will not touch the overhead guard after sitting on it; in the absence of an overhead guard, the height of the driver's head should not exceed the height of the mast after sitting on it.
Axle load and wheel pressure
When the forklift enters the box, the wheels will generate a concentrated load on the bottom of the box. According to the ISO inspection standard for the bottom of the container, the axle load is 5460kg, and the average load of each wheel is 2730kg. The wheel width is 180mm, the ground contact area is 14200mm2, and the wheelbase is 760mm, so the wheel pressure is limited within 1.88MPa.
Therefore, the axle load and wheel pressure of the selected forklift in the box should be less than the above limit values, and its lifting capacity is generally below 2500kg, so the forklift working in the box is usually a small forklift of 2t to 2.5t class.
The free lifting height of the mast and the lateral movement of the shelf and forks
Since the working space of the forklift is strictly limited when working in the box, it is required to have free lifting performance and convenient alignment function. Usually, the free lifting height of the forklift in the box is 1m to 1.5m, the lateral movement of the shelf is 100mm on the left and right, and the lateral movement of the fork is 150mm to 200mm.
Prevent pollution and reduce noise
The working space of the forklift in the box is narrow, and it is required to reduce noise and prevent air pollution. It is ideal to use an electric forklift. If you use an internal combustion forklift, you need to install an engine exhaust purification device and a noise reduction device.
