Two forklift safety points that must be known

Forklifts are important handling and transportation equipment in warehouses, distribution centers and other places. If you want to work with forklifts or keep safe when working around forklifts, you need appropriate maintenance and inspection, adequate and continuous training, and understand your surroundings.
The two main safety points of forklift should be forklift accessories and battery treatment of electric forklift.
1、 Accessories of forklift
The installation of accessories can improve the safety and availability of the forklift.
Forklifts can be equipped with overhead shields to prevent falling objects, such as boxes or materials. According to the Occupational Health and Safety Administration of the United States, although the forklift operator will take defensive measures against small objects that may fall from the top shelf, please remember that the overhead protective device is usually not strong enough to cope with the impact of the whole vehicle. Therefore, the driver should wear a helmet when operating the forklift.
A vertical load backrest extension is another useful safety function that can be added to the power industrial forklift. These should be used when the load is dangerous. These devices are used to support a large load and prevent it from hitting the mast or sliding towards the driver when the mast is tilted backward.
If the front accessories of a forklift are not installed in the factory, the forklift shall be marked to indicate the total weight of the forklift and accessories when the load is fully lifted and laterally centered.
Although some modifications like this can add functions and improve the safety of forklifts, people must be careful when installing these accessories. OSHA Power Industrial Forklift Regulations stipulate that the manufacturer's written approval must be obtained before implementing modifications that change the forklift capacity or safety.
2、 Precautions for battery of electric forklift
The electric forklift has a unique set of safety precautions that the facility manager must be aware of. Forklifts must be powered at all times. For electric forklifts, this means that the charging station must be located in an easily accessible, designated area and ensure that all employees are aware of these locations.
Sometimes charging or replacing batteries can become dangerous. To reduce the risk of electrolyte leakage or asset damage, the facility should install barriers or equipment to protect the charging station from forklift damage.
The facilities must be prepared for leakage or dangerous situations, and there must be materials on hand for flushing or neutralizing electrolyte leakage. The Occupational Health and Safety Administration recommends that there be enough easily available water, soda ash and fire extinguishers to prevent a fire. The charging area should also be adequately ventilated.
There are material handling equipment specially designated for battery management, or electric industrial forklift can be easier and safer to maintain. Some options in this regard include conveying systems or overhead lifting systems.
When repairing the electrical system, employees need to pay attention to the stored energy. The battery must be disconnected before starting maintenance.
By having an embedded technician at your work site, forklift maintenance and repair can be quickly and skillfully solved.
