I. Forks
The forks are the most basic and universal lifting device on a forklift. Most forklifts are equipped with two identical forks. They are L-shaped rods, divided into horizontal and vertical sections. The horizontal section is used to lift goods, and the vertical section connects to the fork carriage. Generally, the horizontal and vertical sections of the fork are integrated, called integral forks.
II. Fork Carriage
The fork carriage, also called the slide carriage, is primarily used to mount the forks or other attachments and to lift goods along rollers using the mast as a guide. The lifting chain lifts the goods via the fork carriage. The torque generated by the weight of the goods and the forks is transmitted from the fork carriage to the mast. When the chain drives the fork carriage to rise and fall, the fork carriage moves the attachments along the inner mast as a guide, bearing the entire weight of the goods. A forklift typically consists of two parts: the front part is a welded frame structure, mainly used for mounting and suspending cargo and other attachments; the rear part is a roller frame with two rows of guide rollers, welded together with the front frame to form an integral unit, and pulled by a chain to rise and fall along the mast guide rail.
